Have you ever felt frustrated that there are so many options for gorgeous themes for girls’ parties, and not so many great choices for boys? You will change your mind completely after reading about this unbelievably perfect boy’s 2nd Birthday party!

This Paper Plane themed party for Louis’ 2nd Birthday is just simply amazing. We are grateful that Louis’ mum Angela kindly shared all the details with us on how she prepared and styled this unique and stunning party. Read on to learn all of the details.

Party Theme:

I chose the theme as Louis is obsessed with planes, isn’t every 2 year old little boy?!! Any time one flies by we have to stop everything we are doing and zoom around with our arms stretched out mimicking a plane! Now I had come across a number of aeroplane themed parties, both vintage and retro, but they just didn’t suit our style. That’s when I had come up with the idea of a ‘paper plane’ themed party to make it work with a more contemporary and neutral colour palette I wanted to achieve. I also used a childish play of ‘traveling on planes’ as our underlying theme.

Decorations and Styling

I focused on a neutral colour palette with textures made up of greenery, blackboard, cardboard, wooden palette’s and crisp whites. Even though our party was in our apartment at home, I wanted to create a backyard feel using the greenery and pallet furniture. The two main decorating focal points to our party were our serving table with our actual paper plane back drop and our balloon garland acting as our clouds.

Additionally, I created zones in our apartment to help tie in the theme, Check-in (Entry) Baggage Claim (Present Drop), Passport photos (Photo Booth), VIP Lounge (extra seating), and In Case of Emergency (In-door children’s slide).

Food Served

It couldn’t have been a paper plane-themed party without some plane food right?! I was able to get my hands on some paper trays similar to the divided trays used on planes. The idea was for guests to use these and help themselves to the grazing table full of yummy antipasto (cheese, dips) and some party treats with cupcakes and petite cakes.

However, with the help of Print and Party I was able to have some custom pieces made up and with a little D.I.Y really bring the theme together. Using ‘Inflight Service’ stickers I was able to make up little cutlery bags, little salad bowls, bands to hold together the chicken wraps and make custom disposable coffee and tea cups. ‘Inflight Snack’ stickers I used to make up little pretzel bags, and ‘Inflight Refreshment’ labels for water bottles.

Lastly, we had custom ‘Inflight Treat’ chocolate bars made up – and let’s be honest you don’t expect the chocolate to be that great when you get these custom chocolate bars, you’re really buying them for the wrapper right?! But oh my goodness – hands down the most delicious Belgian chocolate I’ve ever tasted!!!

Our little Pilot did not stop beaming from ear to ear all day – at only 2 years old, he knew it was a special day for him with all our family giving him so much attention. I just know he loved that our home was transformed into his special day when he saw it for the first time and shrieked ‘oh wow Mama! Niiiiice’
