How to create a Magical Ice Cream Party

Imagine one day walking through that magical landscape we all dreamt of as kids, filled with sweet treats and pastel colours! Amazing mama Natalie from This Sweet Life of Mine created this fantasy land for her sweet girl Chloe’s second birthday. Read on to find out how Natalie created this wonderland!

Natalie Says

‘Sweets for our sweet girl’ came about through Chloe’s love for all things sweet. Whether it be doughnuts, lollies, cakes but especially ice cream. Jess from little J Designs came up with the colour scheme sending through a photo of the perfect palette of pastel colours with a hint of gold. I fell in love instantly and so began the planning for our little miss.

I like to put most of my budget into one piece of styling and for this party it was the 5m balloon garland from Party Planet. I then styled things around this piece including a custom screen from Be Branded. Most of the other party supplies were purchased from Kmart. To add a personal touch I purchased white frames and placed photo’s of Chloe at ages newborn, one and two.

I outsourced the food this year and honestly it was the biggest relief. Grazing Acres did a wonderful job creating a breakfast spread (9am party) for our guests to enjoy. It included a build your own muesli station, croissants, ham, cheese and fruits.

Chloe’s cake was made by Ange’s cakes who put together an ice cream themed masterpiece. She also made ‘Ice cream cones’ which looked just like real ice creams but in face were stuffed with white chocolate and white marble chocolate cake. The cake topper was from XOXO Design. I went with a custom gold metallic side mount as the top of the cake was already very full.

For sweets I ordered personalised chocolate bars through Print & Party. They had the perfect Ice Cream theme to match with Chloe’s Party.

Party favours were of course in the shape of an ice cream and they were handcrafted marshmallow ice creams from Cloud Theory Marshmallows.

Ilina’s Ice Cream First Birthday Party

Ilina’s First Ice cream Birthday Party

Ilina’s First Ice cream Birthday Party was put together by her super mama, Jasmina. Read on to know more how she organised this beautiful party!

Jasmina Says:

Recently we threw a party to celebrate our little girl Ilina turning O N E! We wanted to mark the occasion with a celebration with close friends and family at our home in South Australia. I styled the party around my chosen theme, which was pastel, white and gold with ice cream. Pastel for a little girl is really sweet and bringing gold into it brings a bit of sparkle! And all kids love ice cream!

First stop: the invites! Print and Party

IG @printandparty

I found the perfect invites at Print and Party to fit the theme – pastel and gold coloured rainbow stripes with a gold unicorn. I requested to have the unicorn image replaced with an ice cream image which was no trouble at all. Anna provided a few samples and I chose the upside down ice cream drip cake image to match the actual cake. It was just perfect!

Ilina’s cake was an upside down ice cream drip cake with ROSE GOLD drip! Rose gold is my favourite metal at the moment so I decided to mix my metals! It went perfectly with the yellow gold in the invites and the yellow gold and silver tassels in the balloon arrangements.

The cake was an 8″ 4 layer red velvet cake with vanilla Italian meringue buttercream. Rose gold drip (which even had a rose scent to it!!!) with upside down ice cream cone, pastel mint green base with sprinkles.

From here we also had a full dessert table including:

  • Vanilla flavoured cupcakes with pastel pink and pastel purple vanilla buttercream
  • Macarons (in pastel colours and rose gold painted) with lemon curd buttercream filling
  • Cake pops – these were dark mud cake with mint green base and white sprinkles
  • Ice cream shape cookies with hand painted faces and sprinkles and personalised stamped message “ILINA TURNS 1”, packaged in cello bags with ribbon
  • Meringues – swirly shapes in pastel colours
  • Mini donuts – white chocolate topping with watercolour pastel and rose gold design

A gorgeous addition to the dessert table were the gold foil chocolate bars from Print & Party. Anna personalised these for us with the message “Happy Birthday Ilina” with an ice cream image. These were also matched with the pastel and gold striped invites and looked amazing!

The kids also filled their favour boxes with desserts to take home! The white favour boxes were from Discount Party Supplies. I decorated them with round chalk board stickers from Office Works and a pink permanent chalk board marker with ‘STAY SWEET’ in honour of my sweet baby girl 🙂

Balloons and tassels: The Little Big Balloon Company

I had a balloon bouquet next to the dessert table with a jumbo foil pink heart-shaped balloon, a jumbo foil lilac heart shaped balloon, small pink and lilac foil star balloons, a 60cm round confetti balloon, and a 60cm round lilac balloon – both with mint green/pink/lilac and gold tassels.

I then had 3 bunches placed randomly around the house with white round balloons, foil pastel coloured balloons in shapes of hearts, circles and stars. The balloons were AMAZING and the photos just don’t do them justice!

From here I also used a pastel and gold tassel garland for behind the dessert table as well as a white gold script balloon of the word “ONE”.

Birthday Board: Print and Party

The Birthday Board was designed by Anna at Print and Party to match our invites and chocolate bar favours. It displayed Ilina’s details like height and weight and some of her milestones. It made the PERFECT decorative addition to the dessert table, as well as being an adorable keepsake for Ilina.

Food and drink supplies

Gold foil paper straws, gold foil square paper plates, and gold foil striped napkins for serving drinks and dessert. These were all bought at Discount Party Supplies (IG @discountpartyau). Their range is HUGE! I also used metallic gold plastic cups from Spotlight.

Party Supplies

Pastel and white polka dot party hats and pink poppers from Spotlight; a light box (borrowed); photo booth props and inflatable toys from Discount Party Supplies; colouring/sticker books and ball pit from Target; dolls from Alimrose (Instagram @alimrose); vases from Target; random colourful flowers from Aroha florist on the morning of the party 🙂

Photographer: Emma Sordillo (IG @emmasordillophoto FB Emma Sordillo Photography). She was so good at capturing the candid moments and the happy, fun vibe at the party really shone through in the photos 🙂

Ilina enjoyed her party so much and we’re so grateful and thankful to everyone that came and celebrated with us. Party planning made easy with these amazing brands and vendors to help make this a memorable occasion for our sweet baby girl so she can look back fondly in the years to come 🙂
